A father abandons his family to fight wildfires setting into motion an irreversible course of events for a teen and his mother.

Chuck says that Paul Dano’s directorial debut is a poignant look at familial conflict that powerfully makes its point without raising its voice.  The performances by the three leads are of the highest order.

Pam finds the film to be a deep and emotionally wrought film depicting innocence lost as a teen begins to see his parents for who they truly are.  Under skillful direction, Carey Mulligan gives a perfect performance of a flawed, but realistic wife, mother, and woman and Ed Oxenbould is simply extraordinary as young Joe.
