Family tensions ramp up among siblings in the week leading up to their half-sister’s wedding in the country.

Pam says:

Based on the book by Grant Ginder, an all-star cast attempts to create a story about a dysfunctional family during a wedding.  If it doesn’t sound novel, there’s a reason…it isn’t.  Kristen Bell is Alice, a jealous, insecure, and judgmental half sister to Eloise, our bride-to-be who lives in England with her father.  Mom, Allison Janney, has been long-divorced from her British beau, now living in the US in middle America having raised Alice and Paul (Ben Platt).  The petty group travels across the pond for a luxurious stay in London only to dip down into the depths of deplorable behavior as the wedding day approaches complete with a hen party.

This predictable and embarrassing film caters to the lowest common denominator with crass jokes and comments meant to be funny but fall flat.  Every scene feels contrived with superficial characters and a storyline that is way too familiar.  Bell, Platt, and Janney are incredible actors who can hone in on their comedic talents, but they have dialed in their performances making it about as interesting as the landscape of the Midwest where their characters reside…flat as a pancake.  “People” is as entertaining as watching paint dry…skip it.
