A couple (Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani) experiences a defining moment in their relationship when they are unintentionally embroiled in a murder mystery.
Chuck says:
If you’ve seen the Steve Carell-Tina Fey feature “Date Night,” you’ll recognize the basic outline of the story after about 10 minutes. That being said, there are more laughs here than you might expect thanks to the antagonistic chemistry between the two leads. The enthusiasm they bring to the stock roles they’ve been saddled with saves the film from being a total waste. The chemistry between Nanjiani and Rae is dynamite, their back-and-forth electric with witty insults and quips, making for a far better time than you might expect. These two deserve a better movie.
Pam says:
Watch the trailer and you know exactly what you’re in for! If you want to laugh at pure silliness and ridiculousness, go for it! Let’s face it, we all need these types of films to distract us and hit that funny bone over and over again. Nanjiani and Rae are incredible comedic actors and while they never seem to find the right chemistry, the story does. Is it predictable? Yes. Is it over the top? Yes. Are there plenty of gags? Yes. I even watched this film twice; once by myself and then with my daughter. (She’s 25 so don’t judge me!) It goes to prove that a communal viewing experience is much more fun than watching a silly comedy by yourself. I definitely enjoyed it more the second time around.
