Kim Nguyen writes and directs the film based on the true story of a pair of high-frequency traders who go up against their old boss in an effort to make millions in a fiber-optic cable deal.
Chuck says: Though not based on a true story, this tale of corporate intrigue is an engrossing account of the ends companies will go to in 0rder to gain the smallest advantage on their competition in the dog-eat-dog world of Wall Street. Eisenberg continues to play the smarmy, intelligent wheeler-dealer he’s played many times before, which is perfectly suited for this vehicle. However, it’s Alexander Skarsgard that shows a range we haven’t seem from him before as Anton, a troubled genius whose intellectual gifts end up being more of a curse than a blessing. Unexpected twists and turns and a fun, vicious turn from Salma Hayek contribute to this breach, gripping story. 3.5/4.0 Stars
Pam says: Eisenberg continues as the frenetically paced talker in his role as Vincent who represents the other side of the coin in this sibling team with Anton (Alexander Skarsgard). While Eisenberg’s role initially isn’t a stretch for him, he shows us a depth of character not yet seen. Skarsgard is physically unrecognizable in this role as the brains behind the sibling team trying to beat the big tech player lead by the intimidating Eva Torres (Salma Hayek). Skarsgard brings such beauty to his brilliant character who is most certainly on the spectrum. Their brotherly bond of love and loyalty pushes the boundaries in life until it truly becomes life or death. This is an intense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat as you root for the little guy. With a smart, succinct script and cinematography that connects you to the characters, your eyes are opened to what technology and greed can and has done. 4 / 4 Stars
