Sam and Tusker (Colin Firth & Stanley Tucci) are traveling across England in their old RV to visit friends, family and places from their past. Since Tusker was diagnosed with dementia two years ago, their time together is the most important thing they have.
Chuck says:
Featuring a masterclass in acting, Harry McQueen’s Supernova is a heartbreaking two-hander featuring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci as long-time lovers, Sam and Tusker, who embark on a road trip to the past. The latter, dealing with dementia, has definite ideas about how he wants to deal with the rest of his life which runs counter to his partner’s plans to care for him. Quiet heartfelt moments between the two veteran actors propel the film, their chemistry and sincerity all but ensuring that our hearts will break as their characters’ do once they’re forced to face the inevitable. Yes, it’s heavy lifting but Firth and Tucci powerfully remind us of the importance of true love and devotion and just how rare and precious they are.
