After her mother is murdered by her stepfather, gifted 15 year old student Pearl (Larsen Thompson) goes to live with an ex-lover (Anthony LaPaglia) of her mother, a grumpy unemployed film director who, pending the results of a paternity test, may be her biological father.
Predictable to a fault, this is a film that’s seemingly unaware that the story its telling has been told hundreds of times before. While the story strives to be a tale of perseverance and overcoming adversity, the tone here is inconsistent, rendering any sentiment it tries to create hollow. Horribly acted, this movie lacks an ending as it comes to an abrupt, unsatisfying halt. 1 ½ Stars. 92 minutes. Rated R.
