Pam says: I loved the first 1/3 of the show! The opening with Queen turned out great, building the energy for the evening’s events. Filled with great guests who could have EASILY hosted (Tina Fey, Maya Rudolph, Amy Pohler) and hilarious antics by Melissa McCarthy, it was great entertainment. The middle 1/3 went to a snails pace, but thankfully, the upsets and excitement of the final portion got the excitement levels up again. I was truly surprised by Olivia Colman’s win for Best Actress although it was well-deserved! And “Roma’s” loss to “Green Book” was a huge upset in my eyes. And now, the biggest upset…Chuck predicted two more correct winners than I so it looks like I’m in for a surprise on WCIA TV (live!) this week! What will Chuck have me do??? Tune in on Thursday (CI-Living) and Friday (Morning Show) to find out!
Chuck says: It was a well-produced show as the Academy took a giant step forward in finding a way to streamline the event and make it more viewer friendly. The no-host debacle may end up being the best thing that ever happened to the Oscars – here’s hoping they never have one again and stick with this format. The second hour dragged but they still managed to give out several awards in that time. While I was disappointed that Richard Grant didn’t take home that Best Supporting Actor award and that Paul Schrader went home empty-handed, there were plenty of surprises in the last hour that made sitting through it worthwhile. Wish they had more montages as this is always a highlight and they only had one. Still and all, a good show with the added benefit that I outguessed Pam in our Oscar contest, getting 13 out of 24 correct, which is, overall, a bad showing. Tune in on Thursday (CI-Living) and Friday (Morning Show) to find out just what she has to do for coming in two short!
