A group of plus-sized women from around the world attempt to climb the tallest peak in Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro.

Pam says:

If ever there was in inspirational film, this is it.  “Kili Big” takes us into the minds and hearts of the women who dared to go against the stereotypical judgements of who can bag this intimidating peak.  Baring their souls, we hear the backstories of individual plus-sized women whose confidence and identity has been shaken by how others see them.  Joining a group of similar-minded and sized females, we walk alongside them as they train and eventually attempt to do what most of us would never dare to do…hike one of the peaks of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Sitting in the comfort of our own living rooms as we watch the film, there is also a pang of guilt as we all make snap judgments about people who are over weight.  And we see the pain that  words  and even sometimes more powerful, looks, effect the subject of our observations.  This entire story told through the lens and the words of women who accomplish more than most of us could dream, gives us empathy for their situation and even more importantly, respect and a new point of view.

By the middle of the film, I texted a friend to see if she would join me to accomplish what this curvy crew showed us to be possible.  Bag one of the most difficult peaks in the world.  Thank you, ladies!  Maybe I’ll see you there in a couple of years!
