Molly and Abbey, along with their crew of close friends and acquaintances, host a dysfunctional, comical and chaotic Thanksgiving dinner.

Nicol Paone (“This is 40”) writes and directs this holiday film featuring Malin Akerman as Molly, a Hollywood actress who is attempting to spend a quiet Thanksgiving with her baby Eden (twins Everly and Savannah Sucher) and bestie Lauren (Aisha Tyler), both having recently broken up with their significant others.  The party for three quickly devolves into a full blown celebration complete with ex-boyfriends, Molly’s mom (Jane Seymour), other couples, and Molly’s velcro lover of unknown origins, Jeff (Jack Donnelly).

Molly is the focal point in this film as she attempts to find herself and what truly makes her happy.  As more of the guests arrive, it becomes a nightmare of relationships that Molly attempts to juggle all while caring for her precious and completely adorable baby who steals every scene he/she is in.   “Friendsgiving” could have been a lot of fun as Molly attempts to find independence and peace from within, but the chaos of the cast takes over, dipping into ridiculousness sans humor and becomes nothing more than just another forgettable film. 1 1/2 Stars.

Chuck says:

Molly and Abbey (Malin Ackerman and Kat Dannings), along with their crew of close friends and acquaintances, host a dysfunctional, comical and chaotic Thanksgiving dinner. Writer/director Nicol Paone’s debut feature is filled with good ideas and some appealing characters but the film never manages to build any momentum, sitting there liking a listing ship. It’s the sort of movie that leaves you completely unaffected while giving viewers the confidence that they could make something just as good, if not better if given the resources. 2 Stars.
