Post World War II, a British colonel (Jason Clarke) and his wife (Keira Knightley) are assigned to live in Hamburg during the post-war reconstruction, but tensions arise with the German (Alexander Skarsgard) who previously owned the house.
Chuck says: This period drama gets off to a slow start but picks up steam once the dynamic between the three principals is established. Far more than a simple drama revolving around a love triangle, the film takes the time to delve what makes the key players tick, each of them haunted by a tragic past that makes them easy to empathize with and understand. This proves to be a probing look at the impact of the choices we make with a conclusion that goes against the grain.
