A group of friends think they find an easy score at an empty house with a safe full of cash. But when the owners, an elderly couple, come home early, the tables are suddenly turned.
Chuck says:If Fede Alvarez’s “Don’t Breathe” is the best home invasion thriller and this year’s “Becky” is the worst, “The Owners” falls somewhere in between. Director Julius Berg adapts a deliberate pace and carefully sets up the film’s premise in an intriguing and engaging manner. The script’s surprises are logical as are the character’s actions, lending a degree of realism to the horror that makes it all the more effective. While the movie does overstay its welcome, it provides enough thrills to satisfy genre fans, thanks in large part to the game cast who completely buys into the premise.
