Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), an Italian NY’er and former bouncer is hired to drive Dr. Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), a classical pianist, across the country on tour in the American South during the 1960’s.  Based on a true story, the men discover more than tolerance, but a true understanding of one another, creating a very unlikely friendship.

Pam found that this film allows you to, perhaps not walk in these men’s shoes, but at least along side of them.

While Chuck enjoyed the film, he feels it’s a soft look at the complex issue of racism.  The period details are spot on and the chemistry between the two leads is wroth the price of admission as they fully inhabit these two men who change one another in unexpected ways.
