After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), the universe is in ruins. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe.

Chuck says: Marvel Films’ grand plan comes to fruition here and their game-changing saga couldn’t have ended on a higher note. After the dire nature of Infinity War, Anthony and Joe Russo inject a great deal of much-needed humor in this chapter, despite the stakes being just as high.  Ultimately, nostalgia is the driving force here for the characters, as well as the audience, as time travel plays a key part in this story, allowing the Russos to drop the key players into memorable moments from past movies, scrambling to save the future while commenting on how they once were while being juxtaposed with their current selves.  It’s a clever use of post-modernism that makes this a fun and surprisingly moving exercise as many of these endearing characters meet their end here, some of them tragically, others in a bittersweet manner.  A deft, entertaining and ultimately poignant balancing act, I can’t imagine this saga ending in a more satisfactory way.

Pam says:  “Avengers: Endgame” was a wonderful surprise, filling almost every minute (all 181 of them) with excitement, drama, humor, and visually interesting and entertaining intrigue.  While it also showcases female empowerment, it tells a well-balanced story that stitches together great comedy as well as drama.  Hemsworth, Downey, Jr., and Rudd together on screen create an explosively hilarious environment using physical humor accompanied by great comedic timing.  There are also lessons to be learned from this film from environmentalism and compassion to the basic definitions of humanity and  family.  If you’ve seen all the Marvel films over the past 10 years (Chuck says there are 23), then you will love and appreciate all the details in this film that will make you laugh and maybe even shed a few tears.  Yes, miracles can happen…I loved this super hero movie!
